Pertussis

Please, get your facts straight! Pertussis is caused by a bacteria and the whoop is caused by a toxin emitted by the bacteria, not, as you said, by a virus. Furthermore, the vaccine acts against the toxin, not against the bacteria. People who are vaccinated can catch pertussis, can spread pertussis and do not actually develop immunity to pertussis. At best they'll be immune to the toxin and not develop a cough.

The point is, besides the misidentification of a bacterium as a virus, is that the vaccine for pertussis does not provide herd immunity. And yet we are frequently told that we cannot let vaccine rates drop because of herd immunity! What other misinformation is being spread by medical authorities?

gardasil shot

Unfortunatly the gardasil shot came out just after I was diagnosed with HPV. After seeing what it did to my sister, I'm relieved I didn't get it. People with HPV have many different options to help get rid of HPV if contracted. Many times, it will go away on it's own, others will have the risk of it developing into cancer. I've read just about everything I could find about HPV. Those of you who say that condoms are the way to go, they still are not 100% effect. HPV does not have to be spread from genital to gential. The virus can live even on the skin of the thighs. Tried condoms, still had the virus. Nothing is ever 100% effect not matter what. With a family history of this disease, I have spoken with family members about what they did to remove the virus from their body. Not everyone will have the same effects to each vaccine or treatment. I have seen my sister get so sick from these headaches. She has missed school and even time with family and friends. Now that she has seen a doctor that prescriped her new meds to help her migraines, she is back to her normal self. It only took about 1 1/2 years for them to finally find what will help her. It was very frustrating to see her be in pain from something we thought would help her. It may have prevented her from getting the HPV virus, but she has suffered a lot for something she might never have developed. I really hope that this article will help other women who have be effected by this shot realize that they are not alone and hope they have found ways to reverse the effects.

Have you ever questioned your Dr. about all of the toxic chemicals in the vaccines that big pharma pushes on us every day ? I have not met one who actually knows what is in the vaccines and the harm that they cause. Parents need to start educating themselves and not taking the doctor's word. Spain halts Gardasil

Journalistic malfeasance

This, unfortunately, is an example of the kind of sensationalistic journalism that has allowed vaccine myth to spread like wildfire. The piece is filled with inaccuracies, and is so leading in it's rhetoric as to make it laughable - if it weren't so dangerous.

First, her understanding of the vaccine schedule is plain wrong. At most, a child would receive 27 shots by kindergarden (not 38), but usually only 20 as combination vaccines are often used. But that's the least of Ms. Kotz's offenses here.

Reporting on individual anecdote does nothing for our understanding of this issue, but it does dangerously mislead and cause people to form opinions without the backing of sound evidence. Our system for testing vaccine safety and for ongoing surveillance is excellent and based on sound scientific and epidemiologic evaluation. Referring to the Hanah Poling case Ms. Kotz erroneously states that the government admits "science doesn't know much about how many shots a kid can safely get at once and which children will be harmed". In fact, what she means is that the COURTS have decided in favor of the Poling family. She wildly misrepresents the facts regarding this unfortunate case. Science is VERY clear that the number of vaccines children receive is not a problem. And the Poling case is a sad example of the courts making decisions based not on science but on unscientific legal criteria. Hanah Polin's neurological condition is a result of a mitochondrial disorder that was brought to light by a stress. The vaccines could have been the stress that unmasked her condition, but there were many other stressors (her multiple infections and even surgery) that were just as likely to be the unmasking event. In either case, the vaccines themselves weren't causative.

Ms. Kotz also misleads her readers by stating that "certain approaches...can help minimize risks without leaving children unprotected." She, of course, is referring to Dr. Sears' wildly successful but totally unfounded belief that spreading vaccines out, rather than following the recommended schedule, can reduce risk. Of course the risks he refers to have not been borne out, nor are they based on any data whatsoever. And the idea of spreading out the schedule, while appealing instinctively to parent s who may be fearful of hidden vaccine dangers, and selling lots of books is not actually sound medical or scientific advice. In fact it is a dangerous gamble that likely played a role in the recent outbreak of devastating hib disease in Minnesota, and certainly has lead to the recent outbreaks of measles in New York, San Diego and elsewhere.

The way Ms. Kotz ends her story is classic for such sensationalistic pieces when she quotes the parent of a supposedly vaccine-injured child, "What happened to my daughter can't be forgotten." Ms. Kotz makes certain her readers wont forget the thrust of this story. Vaccines are dangerous and need to be feared. Truth be damned.
