Reds and Blues are you listening?
Yep. With the exception of those sad statements from cancer sufferers, all I am hearing is the useless prattle of a bunch of spammers, anarchists, and mal-informs.
"Some critics are making loud noises in the comments following the article about preventing cancer by cleaning up the environment and our foods."
Really? Are you going to shut off the Sun, too? How about we cover the entire plant in lead and knock down some of that pesky cosmic radiation, while you are at it? Then we can sit in the dark and smoke "hemp" medicine....
Rob of NC wrote the only meaningful post thus far. Personally, my bet is on iRNA/antisense.
Research
Please post the link to the programs using idle processing time to help with these types of calculations, and let us know what they help.
Great article.
Solve Healthcare
Such advances can be debated by researchers. Scientists need to come together and debate such issues.

Lynch Syndrome
Like Mary, I have also been diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome..as has my mother, and two of my children. I had stage 3 colon cancer, my one child had a form of skin cancer at 16 and my youngest child was diag. in 2003 with glioblastoma, and again in 2004. He is currently in remission and off all treatment with the exception of synthroid and hgh injections..both helping to counter the effects of long term chemo/radiation treatments. My two children that showed the gene are very healthy eaters...they rarely eat sugar, no soda and never fast foods. They both work-out at the gym and do plenty of cardio. My youngest continues to have clear MRI's since going off chemo in 9/2006. My youngest eats cottage cheese and I give him flax seed as well...fish oil, vit c, and lots of berries and lean meat...building the immune system after the ravage of chemo is especially important. I'm all for finding a cure and try to stay updated on any new news...for now though..just common sense in our everyday habits and focusing on wellness. Dave (my child) has a website listing all the meds he has been on and his journey: www.caringbridge.org/fl/david
Big Achievement
It is great to learn about this breakthrough. Keeping in view that my beloved mother recently passed away battling cancer for a little over five months, I can imagine how difficult it is to watch the moments through which your loved one is passing. She was diagnosed at the time when it was at an advanced stage. I wish all the success to the scientists in their endeavors.
Internet & Science
Today Internet has become a toy in the hands of astray population. The science has become the most least read subject Internet politics hollywood sex have taken over.
No one seems to be interested in experiments every one loves to uselessly write or copy paste useless articles and chat with friends.

Helping at home
I wish these articles would also mention how people are helping with their home computers! Then more people would participate in this real science. Check out WorldCommunityGrid or Folding@Home for good examples.
Genomes will be Genomes
I linked to this article and your comments at my natural health website:
www.asianhealthsecrets.com where I have articles on immune-enhancing foods and herbs, recipes and timely information based on world-wide research. . .
Remember when scientists mapped the genome (genetic material) for SARS some years back? It filled 18 pages with little letters, a genetic code. It really did not stop SARS but it was interesting. I papered my wall with some of the print-out. Now a new study has begun to map the genomes of rare, deadly brain and pancreatic cancers. It makes a case for stem cell research and heavy computer use to say the least. Drugs and medical treatments and even the complete genome maps are years off, but it’s interesting. . . Some critics are making loud noises in the comments following the article about preventing cancer by cleaning up the environment and our foods. That’s interesting too. Cause or Cure?
It is a valid argument that cancers are caused by industry attacking our air, water, and the soil which we use to grow food to feed our children. So why are we finding cures when we should be preventing the root cause? Stop letting them kill ourselves with these products and pollutants that cause cancer, minimizing the effects to say the least?<P>
It is becoming increasingly clearer that the morons at the chemical companies, food producers, and industrial manufacturers are playing Russian roulette with our very lives by finding cheaper solutions to feeding, clothing, and housing. (Look at the Trans-Fat episode that has been found out recently. A product solely designed to save companies money without testing for harmful effects on humans.)<P>
The entire reason for that existance of these products and additivies are to save companies money! Yet by doing so, they increase, if not make certain, that we will be less healthy and will become riddled with cancers and diseases.<P>
It is terrorizing without telling us what is the terror. I would rather be attacked by terrorist people rather than attacked from the inside of my body by companies that make products that are unhealthy and designed solely to save some greed-based corporation money and that we thought, because a federal government designed to protect us from such infiltrators, was safe to ingest!<P>
