Are You Paranoid? Quiz Yourself

Posted January 16, 2009

How paranoid are you? Take this quiz, coauthored by paranoia expert Daniel Freeman, to see where you fall along the paranoia spectrum. First, scan the 10 statements below. Then use the scale from 1 (not at all) to 5 (totally) to indicate how strongly you agree with each statement, given the thoughts and feelings you've had within the past month. Once finished, tally your score.

1 = Not at all               5 = Totally

  1. I spent time thinking about friends gossiping about me
  2. I often heard people referring to me
  3. I have been upset by friends and colleagues judging me critically
  4. I have been thinking a lot about people avoiding me
  5. People have been dropping hints for me
  6. I believed that certain people were not what they seemed
  7. People talking about me behind my back upset me
  8. I was convinced that people were singling me out
  9. Certain people were hostile towards me personally
  10. I was frustrated by people laughing at me

Scoring

The higher your score, the farther you are along the spectrum toward paranoia.

  • 50 percent of all people score 10 to 15 points
  • 25 percent of people score 16 to 20 points
  • 20 percent of people score 21 to 28 points
  • 5 percent of people score 29 points or above
