The information about kids and media use is not a surprise to most of us. HOWEVER, as a wellness business owner that presents educational information for a living, there are a number of people that WILL NOT believe this unless there is "research" supporting everything I say. The fact that we have to have a study to tell us this is fasinating in and off itself and an indication of how far our society's values have skewed from the successful parenting models that we grew up with in the 50s.

Do you mean to tell me that if kids just sit in front of the television, play video games, or surf the net, they won't be as health or as well adjusted as kids who play outside, read, work, and contribute to society? Wow what an eye opener. I wish I knew this sooner. What a shocker. I hope you did not spend alot on this study.

Parents need to model the right behavior for their kids and lead by example.

So, if you want fat, sick, emotionally retarded, and clever but dumb kids in an aggressive world don't cut out their TV, internet, and game time.

Since when does sex go with violence

Of course letting your child sit around watching TV and surfing the web all day is going to encourage poor health and obesity... Not to mention potential laziness.

That information of fairly obvious and not in dispute however I must bounce off the previous post regarding the over sexualizing of children. Sex is natural and we have been having as much of it as early as we could since the beginning of humanity. Yes some people have different opinions as to "when" it is appropriate to become sexually active but we as humans are most commonly sexually aware from the moment we explore our own bodies. A variable in sex drive or religious orientation/belief does not give any sect of our society the right to govern what the rest may observe and or take part in concerning our own bodies.

Last I heard sex is 100% LEGAL in America yes? But we are more concerned with our adolescent children seeing a females bare breast than the simulated torture and death of a person on TV.

Last I checked assault and murder are NOT LEGAL in America and are considered immoral in nearly every culture in the world...

So why? I must ask do we perpetually categorize sex with violence??? I would much rather my children see productive non sexual depictions of the naked body so that they can better understand the difference between the sexes without making it "naughty" and thus better prepare and immunize them against sexually targeted marketing and manipulation.

If I had to pick one or the other I would choose for my children of any age to see nudity over violence.

Can we as a culture "get real" or are we destined to continue de'evolving into this sick reality that represses our natural instincts and tells us we are wrong for liking sex while glorifying graphic depictions of violence and making an icon of our modern society.

In the common family home SEX is far more common than VIOLENCE... Yet on television and media you would think just the opposite to be true...

So if you want passive kids in an aggressive world, cut out their TV, Internet, and game time.

Quality Facts runied with PC Drivel

I was excited seeing this study. There's no doubt about he health correlations - in terms of obesity and low malnourishment suffered by people of all ages, but particularly disenfranchised consumer machine children.

Then.. they started ont he bogus PC misrepresentations.. that children are being made more sexual or somehow engaging in sexual activity and at an earlier age. Any researcher with his/her salt will catagorically agree that people are sexually aware from birth, and most discover sexual pleasure before puberty. The idea that media causes this is bogus and another piece of the poisen pie spooned in western culture from day one. Very counterproductive to holistic healthy attitudes adn behavior.

So, go shove this research where the sun don't shine if you're gonna taint it with a neo-con victorian age lie for the sake of broader ignorant applause.
