Teen Depression Worsened by Marijuana, Government Says

lies, lies, lies

When I was young (about 9-12) I had severe depression and often had thoughts of killing myself and a couple failed attempts. When I was 13 I was introduced into marijuana and suddenly my depression went away. I would continue smoking marijuana every now and then in intervals of heavy to light use everyday to every week or every other week. Right now I havent smoked weed in 30 days and you know what, I am still not depressed. If anything marijuana makes you happy. Things that were not funny before are suddenly hilarious. I started looking at the bright side of things instead of the bad side. I have a half-full outlook on life now.

Now on the legalization part of this, I strongly believe it should be legalized.

ALSO NO YOU CANNOT BE ADDICTED TO IT. THATS BS! I've been smoking for 8 years now and I can quit whenever I feel like it. For instance as I said earlier I havent smoked for 30 days straight. The reason I like marijuana is because it makes me relaxed and it makes things more interesting. Even when I was working high the job became easier and less BORING.

Don't listen to what the government tells you is right or wrong, think for yourself. If you don't do it, fine. Just don't bag the idea of legalizing it just because you don't do it. MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF OTHER PEOPLE DO and what have those pot smokers done to you recently to hurt you. NOTHING!!!!!

Who are you more scared of: An alcohol induced toughguy that just wants to fight someone, or a passive, gentle marijuana smoker cuddling with his bong?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Smoking pot since i was 13

i started smoking at 13 and then started using it very frequently over time i smoked even more. soon i was smoking everyday. marujuana has diffent affects on some people but one thing for sure if you smoke alot everyday it will get to your head. It makes you have a phychological depedece...i soon noticed after smoking this much that little things would agravate me i became very irratable and started to feel depressed. wen i didt smoke i would freak out and almost feel like crying this shows it will afect us at a young age our brains arent fully developed and were still growing i bealive if you use marjuana moderatly you would be fine but what makes you depressed is smoking it frequently it makes the chemicals in your brain not as affective becuase your brain is used to having that drug..now at 15 i have finally stopped but i bealive smoking every two or three weeks shouold not have affect but it varies from person to person..im not saying you shouldnt smoke.. you should just not over do it

been smoking frequently for 3 years

i first smoked pot when i turned thirteen, then i stopped untill i was 14 and used it quite regularly. by the time i was 15 i used it frequently and i started to have thoughts about my existence like what are human beings? Why are we here? How are we here etc. these thoughts began to consume me. but even though i was having these thoughts i continued to smoke. then other bad thoughts would pop into my mind. images of death. i think my mind knew if i had these thoughts i would be afraid of them and if i was afraid of them i knew they would linger on. even when i see something disgusting on the internet it will get caught in my head, and the more i want to reject the thought the harder it is for the thought to leave. now i am 16 and i have quit smoking. i just hope these thoughts leave me alone. im a good person who always tries to see it from the other persons perspective if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated

legalize pot = bad idea

comparing pot to alcohol is useless, neither one of them are any good, same goes for tobacco.

personally they all should be against the law, and yes i am a drinker and smoker, but it sure would have been nice to be brought up in a society that has allready figured out that they have absolutly no positive effects and should be banned from production, then i wouldnt constantly be fighting the quit smoking battle as i would have been far less likely to ever start. i know it would never work to outlaw something allready legal because everyone clinging to their addiction would raise so much hell, but opening the floodgate to let more toxic drugs into our commercial market would be the worst thing anybody could ever do

big time dealers of hard drugs should also be given the death penalty

Too many variables

This study attempts to assign a causal relationship where none exists. There will have to be a lot more research before we can make any determinations, either way.

Marijuana can be abused, no doubt. So can alcohol and many other drugs. If you take a person with a predisposition toward addiction and they start smoking cannabis, then of course, they are probably going to smoke too much, and they may end up with negative consequences. That doesn't mean everyone has the same results.

One must bear in mind that age, environment, mental health/ neurochemistry, a person's predisposition toward anxiety/ depression (i.e. genetics), and the actual strain of marijuana itself all contribute to the outcome.

For some people, marijuana is "bad" and they should stay away from it. For other people, marijuana is "good" and it may even be beneficial in some ways, when used responsibly. It's simply not a black and white issue. There are lots of different shades of gray.

I do think teenagers should stay away from marijuana. It's one thing if there's a little bit of experimentation going on every now and then, but it's another thing if they're doing it all the time. They're still in a developmental stage, both physiologically and emotionally.

I think this "study" is influenced by politics. Science and politics usually don't mix well. I don't draw any conclusions from this, and I encourage others to do their own thinking regarding this subject.

Weed is good

If u want to smoke weed move to jamaica that is wher i am from man and weed does no harm for you...unless your a dumbass american

smoking bud is bad

I'm 17 years old nd I was smoking pot atleast 3 times a day for about a year. I have had serious problems staying positive. I was feeling sad and anxious all the time. I have trouble concenentrating and doing things I should be doing. I have had suicidal thoughts when not high. I am only a week off now but after 4 days I felt completely different. Like a new person, like my old self. When I was smoking a lot I would only laugh when I was high and rarely ever when I wasn't high. I am a comical type of guy. After that fourth day I started laughing again not being high. Being high on life is better than on weed. I will try and continue to be sober from now on.

Comment on pot

Yeah, I love pot, but theres one thing.

It can get you in real bad situations.

I used to live in Jamaica, where when you go to church you smoke pot,

Here in the U.S., you go to jail.

I smoke pot twice a week, and it does no harm.

If you know how to control yourself, it's not bad. If you don't, your screwed.

comments on Pot smoking

I started smoking pot when I was thirteen years old and by fifteen I was smoking about a 1/4 of an ounce a day. Dropping out of school @ 15 and progressing rapidly down the downwardspiral toward hell, I ruined my life, through away opportunities that I will never get a chance to take advantage of again. Yes, I use to read High Times magazine and watch Cheech and Chong movies, I was an authentic pot head. This behavior continued into my late twenties, and yes, I was definately a looser (self-inflicted). I am now 43 years old and have not smoked pot in 14 years, but I still feel the effects of the damage I caused by the unwise choices. Yes, I can testify to pot-smoking attributing to depression, I battle with that constantly. I was the cool kid in school, but by my mid twenties my nick-name was "brain-damage". It's your choice.Thank God, I was given a second chance.
