Managing Scoliosis

Posted January 3, 2008

Some scoliosis patients have reported greater flexibility and strength from physical therapy, electrical stimulation, and spinal manipulation, but there is little scientific evidence to suggest that these alter the course of scoliosis. While exercise alone will not prevent a spinal curvature from progressing, it is often prescribed in conjunction with brace treatment to maintain muscle tone. Even without a brace, exercising, playing sports, and yoga generally improve a patient's sense of well-being. There are also many support groups to help patients and their families cope with the social issues surrounding scoliosis.
