tramatic brain injury, OK
My son is also a Traumatic Brain Injury patient. While in The hospital Trauma Unit he got Pneumonia. They sent him to a Short term Specialty Hospital from there, where his arms and legs got stiff from lack of physical therapy. They claim he was receiving physical therapy but he was not. They say they turned him every two hours but they did not. From there he was sent to a nursing home 40 miles out of town because there were no openings in Oklahoma City for him. This State does not know how to take care of Traumatic Brain Injury Survivors. The nursing home he is in is better than the short term hospital he came from. They try, but they are short handed and untrained on Coma Patients. The doctor only visits once a month. His field is not in neurology. It is very sad that the most helpless people do not get the care they should. No money no help.

OKC Nursing Home
My mother was in the Fountains of Canterbury. She had broken her right femur; had an operation to put in a plate; had to enter a skilled nursing facility. So she was placed in this one. Had to keep after them all the time to do things. They wrre short staffed so put extra strain on both patients and employees. A young male CNA was working there when she first went in.
Mom was in alot pain from the bone break and surgery plus she had really bad aethritic knees. Her different health issues and age compromised her total health. She wasn't a very good candidate for any type of surgery. Therefore, she wasn't a candidate for knee replacement. Between her knees and recuperating from surgery bad it difficult for her to get out of bed, set on a toilet, bedside commode, anything of that nature. So had to have extra patience and time in order to do almost everything. This was an eye opener for my sister and myself in dealing with health issues of the elderly. My mom, sister, and I had to learn how to manever etc. Until we learn how to help her, we had to rely on staff. This young man was a lazy, obnoxious, negative attitude toward our mother. He didn't want to help her at all. Didnn't want to suggest ways in which to move her with least amount of pain. WE overheard him telling the nurse on charge that he didn't want to help her whatsoever because she was too slow. Of course she was slow. She wsa recupeating from surgery. She had alot of pain anyway plus an added dose from the surgery. For most people at age 76, tend to be slower than a 20 yr. old.
This place had alot of negative issues. I wouldn't ever place anyone else there.
