Nursing Home Costs
My mother went into a nursing/rehab facility back in March. I told them from the day she went in she would have to stay as I myself am disabled and cannot care for her at home and it was determined that she could NOT live alone on her own. I informed whomever I could talk to that the paperwork for her check to come to them and any other financial assistance she qualified for should be filed asap so it would be in effect when her term of rehab was up. Now the nursing home is sending ME bills for over $5,000 to cover the time that her check was not direct deposited to now, and it's November and the check STILL isn't going to them. I just got notice of this bill about a month and a half ago. In the meantime, I was getting her clothes, she wanted a recliner for her room, and different other items she wanted AND required. There isn't any money hidden anywhere, it went for things she told me to do with it. I have NO POA of my mothers assets and if I had known of this situation months ago, I would have been writing a check to the home to cover what was deposited for her. Instead they want to wait til it's impossible to pay this amount to say anything. What now? Do I need to look for another place for my mother? I am disabled in a wheelchair, don't drive and can't just go place to place to check them out. I know I myself can't pay this. I have a 16 year old daughter. I get no other assistance except a medical card for her. No food stamps, no child support, nothing. We live from check to check. What are my options????

My Aunt is 97 now And has been in a subsidized
housing apartment. She now needs to find a nursing home. What can she do?
Elderly treated like garbage in this counrty!
My poor aged, sick elderly Mother was thrown out of the Rehab she was in after falling & having hip replacement surgery almost 2 months ago, she has end stage emphysema and many other illnesses, weighed 73lb. @ the time of the fall, very ill, anyway after less than 30 days at the Rehab they announced that she would have to be moved (ASAP) either home (yeah right) or to a Nursing Home which I promised her would NEVER happen, problem is she can't yet walk and is in need of way more rehab, also what was mild dememtia is now full blown dememtia in less than 2 months since the surgery & being in the rehab & nursing home, My Mom must go on Medicaid now so anything she worked so hard for and paid for like her 3 small life Insurance polices will be taken by Medicaid to pay for this horrible home she is in, how am I suppossed to pay for her funeral when they take the money from the life Insurance??? They don't want you to have anything but leave you to suffer & then die with NO dignity in such a awful place like most nursing homes after saving & preparing your whole life for your family or yourself, I hate our goverment and how they treat people at the end of life and the aged, SHAME on Medicare & Medicaid for stripping our loved ones of money & dignity @ the end of life!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you wade through all thie info? How do you know who to trust?
My Sister and I Are Desperate To Give Both Parents LTC, BUT
I just returned home after a 12 hr. day with my sister. We first went to Wagner Heights Hospital/where our mom is. She is 89 and in desperate need of LTC, more than the 100 days. Our dad, remains in Hospital, w/ heart failure. He is 93.
They both worked all their lives, saved every penny and have THREE insurances/coverages: Net Life, Medi care, and my mom's ins from being a school teacher for many long years.
They were forced 2 sell their condo 2 pay for their care.
1st, Wagner Heights charges a minumum PER PERSON $260/day up, only for 100 days, then my mom w/ severe 2nd hip break, will need 2 leave or we will have to pay the $8,000 per month private pay. UNLESS we put her back into main hospital. Her doc won't do this/due 2 her needs r LTC now.
They've paid up the wazoo premiums many years to their insurance companies! And now, when they need LTC the most, have nothing much left to pay the HIGH LTC costs.Nor do we..
Wagner Heights is a disappointing place! Their care is less than desirable. Mystery 'meat' is served..others complained too.
My father, is to be returned back 2 wagner heights per his doc of 26 yrs 2 remain in LTC, w/ heart failure..basically, he's being booted out while dying. He's so weak.
The system/docs/facilities continue to shift them both back an forth, leaving them asleep w/o proper care.It will cost $16,000/mo for both, and none of us have that money. They r not able 2 walk/prepare meals, and need constant RN nursing care. I began to take pics of the meals served which i find horrible, small portions, served w/o assistance, bed broken, no therapy...they r not monitored really, left sleeping/no fresh air..simply:poor care imo.
My father was 'not' being attended 2 correctly at WAgner Heights, went un responsive/making them rush him back to emergency hospital after I demanded, but they WAITED till next am 2 do so.He was not expected 2 make it by then!
The assisted living facility, approx. $3,000/mo++ each and now they r not sure if my parents r allowed 2 return, if lvn's/ rn's will be required, yet get paid ea month BUT neither parent is there!
We just found out about the LTC rule, of "100 days" and yur booted! We're sick about it that none of these rules were made clear sooner! It just happened both parents became ill/injured, in same week.
What IS clear, INSURANCE COMPANIES, MEDI CARE are in it 4 the money, and LOTS of it! $$$$
3 insurances/life time paying high premiums $$$, and the end of their lives have come to this?Oh, yep my dad is a vet/but no go there cuz he's still got a few bucks in the bank(assets). Our hearts r breaking/we r working 24/7 to find an answer.
The gov/insurances/r NO heros for those u lov in the end. Always a catch 22! If u haven't been thru it, u have no idea:(

I wanna die young now...
LTC doesn't have to drain you financially!
I was really disappointed when reading this article that more info was not given regarding services that medicaid planners can provide to legally protect & preserve your families assets while still qualifying your loved one Medicaid assistance for LTC in a skilled nursing or assisted living facility. This can greatly reduce your out of pocket costs & give you peace of mind that nursing homes will not make you go broke or spend every day you spent a lifetime saving. I know the Medicaid laws vary by state, so I will only speak for FL. You do not have to spend down to qualify for Medicaid! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. For the purpose of disclosure I do sell long term care financial planning. That being said I want to add to this discussion these facts. Don't assume you are insurable and don't assume you are uninsurable.
As people are becoming more comfortable researching and purchasing insurance over the Internet I have developed a large number of clients in large cities and small towns all across America. I have set up a website to help inform people about long term care planning and the best way to design an insurance policy: http://howtobuyltcinsurance.com
