Heart Surgery
Vanderbilt Hospital is the Best in the world besides John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore Marlyland. I was a blue baby in 1953,& my mother was told to take me home & love me that I wouldn't be here long! A doctor in another town told her of an operation that had just started at John Hopkins that they were doing (found out this started in 1944. Anyway I was taken there & was saved! And in 1977 I needed to go back foe a repair, the doctors up there told my parents that the doctors at Vanderbilt had their training there so--- we went to Vanderbilt beacuse I lived in Tennessee, It was a 9 hr operation, & they had to open me up 4 times in 2 days but by Gods Grace I am still here My daughter was 3 years old then & now I am the proud grandmother of 2 boys 10 & 3, & am planning to go to Vandy for a check-up next month!!!!
Fantastic Hospital, Staff and Doctors
My son had a crainiotomy in January of 2008 to remove a brain tumor from his frontal lobe.
We live in Memphis and have plenty of doc's to choose from, but even they said if it was their son they would take him to Vanderbilt...so we did, and we were very pleased w/ everyone we came in contact with. Dr. Reid Thompson and Dr. Edgeworth, along with Dr. Thompson's nurse, Tracy, made what was a very hard ordeal more bearable. Everyone and everything they do is organized and they use the latest technologies available.
I was just found to have a brain tumor as well, and after visiting with a neurosurgeon here in Memphis(it is closer), I am off to see Dr. Thompson and the staff at Vandy as they are so much more 'advanced' , both in technology and support.
People answer phones, people answer questions , and I have never felt as if I was being passed off to someone else and that person could care less...much like it is here in Memphis.
I thank God that Vanderbilt Hospital exists as it does.
ALL facilities should be modeled after Vanderbilt.
You also can't beat Nashville as a city for things to do and see!
Vanderbilt University Medical Center
My husband was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer just before Thanksgiving 2008. We wanted to go to the #1 ranked comprehensive cancer treatment center, M D Anderson in Houston. We waited for 6 weeks before we got an appointment and the consultation appointment is set still 2 weeks away, or 8 weeks post-diagnosis. This is unacceptable. Both my husband's surgeon and oncologist tried to get an appointment sooner. I tried myself and was unimpressed with our assigned patient contact. Fortunately, a nurse or receptionist at the local oncology office intervened and scheduled an appointment at Vanderbilt. She had an appointment given to her the minute she called and it was only one week away.
We have had the appointment and are so happy with the beautiful, clean facility. It is outstanding in every way. The staff is helpful, professional and eager to help. They are organized, efficient and aggressive. I cannot say enough about our wonderful oncologist, who is brilliant and personable. We have found a place that has given us hope and we feel very lucky. Vanderbilt gets only the highest marks from me!
excellent
I was in VMC after my c-section (my child had to be delivered by c-section due to her birth defect) and I was treated well. The nurses were excellent, and worked their hardest to make sure that I was never in pain and that I received my meds exactly on time. The doctors were also great. The only thing I was uncomfortable with was when the students came around with the doctors but I understood that it was a teaching hospital and so of course occasionaly there will be students along!
Vanderbilt Hospital, Nashville TN
I had a mastoid tumor and acoustic neuroma. Should I have not been recommended to Vanderbilt I probably would not be here today. The surgeons I had were wonderful and were able to remove 90% of it to retain facial movement and hearing. Just to let you know how much they cared about my diagnoises, they took my films to a surgeons seminar in Cal. before they ever did a thing to me. 16 surgeons were involved in my surgery and I am grateful for the care and bedside manner they showed me.
This hospital is a well taken care of hygenically. I was never so pleased to acknowledge the cleanliness of this establishment.
Oh may I add, my surgery was on time and all appt with Vanderbilt were also. Great hospital and teaching establishment.
Good Job Vanderbilt and your staff is amazing.
Vanderdilt University Medical Center
I have been treated by the doctors at VUMC for about the last ten years. I recieved a liver transplant four years ago and now have my life back. The staff is the best! They all take the time needed to find out how you are doing and make you feel that they care. I have been in that facilty hundreds of times and I have never left feeling that I was just a number. The folks at Vandy make you feel like getting well!
Thanks for a great article about a great institution!
