A Walk in the Shoes of an ER Nurse
Think your job is tough? Spend 12 hours doing triage

ER triage nurse
As mentioned in several comments, it was an article that gave a glance into what a triage nurse does. But having been an ER nurse for 8 years (nursing for almost 30), this does not even begin to scratch the surface of what a triage nurse in the ER faces every day! It is also misleading, as the "day in a life of an ER nurse" is really not even addressed! As mentioned before, the writers really must spend time in a busy, short-staffed ER with sick patients, patients under the influence, abusive patients and families, bed shortages and holding patients in the ER, etc; to find out what a REAL day in the life is all about!
triage nurse...from one to another
The article I must admit was only a microscopic look at a day. The comment of being akin to "air traffic controller" is perhaps closer to our reality. One of the most challanging aspects surrounds the constant appologising we do. Sorry for your wait...sorry for your discomfort...sorry that you are alone here today, and so on...all day long.Patient care decisions are made and excuted as efficiently as posssible given a patients presenting complaints. We are vulnarable to patient volume, acuity, and tempers. We are part air traffic, part counselor, part investigator, part jack of all trades and we do it while being one of the most regulated practices in health care.....Carry on!
critical care
let's walk in the shoes of an icu nurse---again 12 -14 hrs at a time. extremely ill patients, complicated medications, multiple co-morbidities, medically uneducated families, heavy physical labor, cramped environment, unfunded patients, multiple physicians, dangerous physical exposures, extreme documentation, administrative pressures, rarely grateful patients and pay less than teachers---why is there a nursing shortage???
er nurse
i am in the final year of nursing in the u.k and i am seriously considering working in acute emergency care, this article gave me insight in a nurses' job in emergency triage and I still hope to be working in 'casualty' or a+e as they are called in the uk in summer 2009.wisk me luck!x
Mrs, Anisa Mertiri a great trage nurse!!!!!!
My name is Candice Pimentel and I'm the young expectant mother that Mrs, Anisa Mertiri was taking care of. Because of my Epilepsy this pregnants has been really hard on me and my family. Mrs, Mertiri has always done her BEST for me and I'm sure she does the same for all of her patients. I just want all readers to know that Mrs, Anisa Mertiri is a great nurse.
ER Nurse?
The problem is that the title of the article is misleading...this is an article about only one aspect of ED nursing (although an important one). There is much more to ED nursing than triage. It would be great if US News could do a follow-up article on various ED nurses and a "day in the life". There is a nursing shortage right now, so it's important for the media to provide articles on nursing that may spark interest int he profession.
ER Nurse
This barely touched the surface of what an ER nurse does in a day.............triage or otherwise.
ER TRIAGE NURSE
THIS WS A VERY BRIEF, LITE AND AIRY PEAK INTO A DAY OF AN ER TRIAGE NURSE. LEFT OUT WAS THE REALITY OF LONG WAITS AND FRUSTRATED PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. HOW ARE HER DECISIONS MADE AND HOW DOES SHE DEFUSE VOLATILE SITUATIONS CAUSED BY IMPAITENT PATIENTS? THE COMENT REGAURDING THE NURSE BEING GORGEOUS ONLY VERIFIES THAT THIS WAS STRICTLY A "FLUFF" ARTICLE
Day in the life
Not really an accurate picture of what it is like working in the ER. The article seemed to glamorize the job - what is the story about ER nurses or the nurse? If it was about the nurse, then good job. But if the story was about the day in the life of an ER nurse then you missed the mark by a long shot and you missed a great opportunity to show the public what ER nurses really do during a day at work.
What a nurse!
Anisa Mertiri is one of our graduates here at the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and we all are very, very proud of her. Wonderful article on a fine young woman who now is an excellent nurse.
