smoking bans

smoking kills many kids like me every day, i dont care if you smoke, just dont do it around people who dont want it done around them

You smokers don't have a brain in your head...

None of you smokers have a brain in your head. Obviously you suffer from oxygen deprivation. All of your arguments are based on nonsense and selfishness, not facts or statistics or anything scientific. You have no respect for your own body or for any one else.

First off the WORST thing next to eating poison or walking in front of a bus that you can do to yourself is smoke. Every single function in your body requires oxygen. You can live maybe 40 days with out food, maybe a week without water and about 10 minutes with out oxygen and that's stretching it.

The root of almost all disease is based on cells being deprived of oxygen. That is why the Trans-Fats are so bad that interfere with the oxygenation of cells unlike healthy fats like Omega 3 oils that actually are REQUIRED by the body so that cellular breathing can occur.

Now back to the issue at hand...

1) People talk about their freedom and personal choice. Since slavery has been abolished no one has any right that gives them the right to take someone else's rights away. When you light up in public you are taking the rights of others away to breath clean air that is smoke free. You are making a choice for them.

If you hate yourself and want to harm you own body I could care less, I could not care if you snort coke, shoot heroin, drink yourself to death or eat 3lbs of lard per sitting. Because it does not affect me what so ever and you have every right to kill yourself and end your miserable life. But when you start blowing your pollution in the air where I have to breath it and you are then making my choice for me. We have a problem.

You do not have the right to choose for others. When you smoke are taking the choice not to smoke away from everyone else in the room.

2) Of course it should be the law, billions are spent by the state and Gov. every year to pay for health care smoking related illnesses many due to second hand smoke. This is costing Tax payers money that cold be spent on other things and cost us non-smokers as well.

3) People should not have to work around smoke. It''s NOT that ease to get a job where there is no smoke for many people in cities that allow smoking. The should not have to choose between work and health. BTW smokers are less productive and take more breaks than non-smokers.

4. There is no question of how bad it is. A recent study showed that after a smoking ban there was a 41% reduction in heart attack admissions of non-smokers than before then ban.

So you think your smoke is not hurting any one?

NOW THE BIGGEST LIE YOU ALL TRY TO CON US INTO BELIEVING...

If you ban smoking people will not go to those businesses and they will go out of business. That is such a joke. People do not go to bars to smoke, the do not go to casinos to smoke, they do not go anywhere

What are we debating for? Antismokers are dreary, corritically-polect oatmeal-faced glasses-wearing get-a-REAL-life poo-poo heads, who don't have souls, and who don't don't know how to have fun, and who support the lies of greedy lawyers and advocates like that greasy potty-faced Banzhaf (why do those types always have stupid names you can't pronounce?)

It's just a phase. The antismoking turds will eventually be pushed back into their dull little existences, forced to live on their dull little planets where they can whine all the time boo-hoo - where the only people who knock on their doors are jehovah witnesesseseses...

specifics of the study

Garbage study

Just another example of the media reporting junk science to fit their agenda. Where are the specifics of this study? What makes Pueblo, CO a representative population for a sweeping generalization like this? When has a cause of death ever been listed on a death certificate as "secondhand smoke exposure"? No person has ever had that as a cause of death. I remember when the anti-smoke crowd ran commercials pushing their ban agenda and listing a guy's name and how he died of lung cancer and "he didn't even smoke". Unlike the bewildered herd that is the American public, I can think for myself and the first thing that came to mind was, Wait a second, lung cancer has more than one source and isn't limited to smoking! I'm not a smoker, but I do think private businesses and companies can do whatever they like and if they want to disallow smoking, so be it. It is none of the government's business.

You want to know when the government will ban tobacco altogether? How about NEVER! Why do they subsidize tobacco farmers if the government is concerned about your health? Governments will never be able to replace the tax money from the sale of tobacco.

The reality of smoking vs. non-smoking

Smokers are now only 20% of the adult population yet they are still allowed to inflict their damage on 80% of the non-smoking adult population. The saddest part is subjecting children to this disgusting and unhealthy habit.

When will they ever outlaw smoking in casinos? They even allow smoking in restrooms at casinos. I recently walked into a very small high roller bathroom and wondered why it smelled so badly of cigarette smoke. Then I saw a smoker at a urinal. Not only did he leave his burning cigarette on top of the urinal, but he didn't even bother to wash his hands as he walked out of the restroom. More proof of how disgusting smokers can be. No wonder Howie Mandel doesn't like to shake people's hands. You never know where that hand has been. I just hope I didn't touch any of his gambling chips.

In my opinion, anyone who smokes is not very happy with their life, has an unconscious desire to kill themselves with every puff, and has an obvious death wish.

If you have been smoking for 40 years and you think your heart and lungs are healthy, you are in complete denial. Your time is about up and your death will be a terribly painful experience. The number of smoking related diseases goes on and on. It is not just about the heart and lungs. Good luck smokers! You need all the luck you can get.

Reporting o n smoking causes comments

There are more comments on smoking ban, smoking study results, etc. than most all other stories.

They stir up both sides with little result.

:)

in response to Mr. Butts of AZ

Did you ever thing that not everyone wants to breathe in your second-hand smoke? It is not a morality issue. It is a HEALTH issue nor is it a government control issue. People that chose to not smoke should not be subjected to other's disgusting habit.

Smoking.

I have been smoking for over 40 years now. I have a regular check-up and x-rays and my heart and lungs are healthy. Some one needs to prove that smoking is the direct reason for smoking and not a convince for cause.

The ridiculousness

I don't mind the ban in airplanes, gov't buildings (altough I think cigarettes would lower instances of violence in jails), schools, etc., but IT SHOULD BE UP TO PRIVATE BUSINESSES TO DECIDE THE POLICY OF THEIR OWN PRIVATE ESTABLISHMENT. If you don't want to be around 2nd hand smoke, go/work somewhere else. The bar ban in AZ was ridiculous. I only go to bars w/ patios now, which is about 1/2 of the ones I patronized previously. Their loss, their competitor's gain. Smoking is obviously unhealthy (which is a reason WHY I smoke, ya'll can keep the adult-diaper-grandchildren-never-call-me years), but there comes a point when the government is legislating morality, which is what we have here. Who's "morality" is it and why do they feel so strongly about it that they think they have the right to legislate it in places they never go to and over people they never encounter? Sounds like a scam on par w/ 1920's prohibition if I've ever heard one. Are they going to ban cigarette sales next? The mafias of the world are always looking to expand their product base.
