How about full disclosure from Nature magazine.
Did anyone pay them to publish the story?
Who actually wrote the story?
Was it written by WPP or one of their agents and
signed off on by the doctors?
Is big pharma that desparate to keep their sales up
that they have to result to developing a demand
off healthy people?
pills
Eating good food is the best way for the mind to work well. Pharmaceutical companies often injure more people than they help. If it's advertised on television that means the product isn't worth taking. And by the way.... the reason conch aren't reproducing in the Florida Keys is because of the estrogen leaching into the near-shore waters from the septic systems. Remember you are what you eat.
Speed
When I was a kid speed was the problem -- now it's the answer!
drug for the brain?
I suggest you smoke weed if you adhd and take vitamins, minerals and other herbs like gingko biloaba
Ridiculous
Giving speed to anyone only does one thing: Makes them high. Should you give kids adderol; because it's the same as meth?
Seriously, every doctor who has ever perscribed a minor amphetamines is reckless. It's pathetic really.
trust
Do you trust the drugs companies and their reps?
Do you think that there are good amphetamines and bad amphetamines?
I think the research is fairly conclusive that habitual use of these products is addictive and counterproductive. If you have ADHD there is an argument to maybe support their use, if you do not need these drugs you will pay a price for using them long term.
As with anything else there is no quick and easy way for keeping you operating at peak mental capacity, try to understand you are not a computer but a highly complex and fragile entity, and you get one shot at life. Don't lose yourself in chemicals.
Are there any doctors out there?
This ignores the pathophysiology of ADHD. The general consensus in the scientific/medical community is that ADHD results from decreased neurotransmitter uptake in the executive function regions of the brain. Increasing the uptake of norepinephrine (a typical target of ADHD drugs) often causes significant anxiety in those without ADHD because those individuals are getting too much of the neurotransmitter which underlies the fight-or-flight response, increased heart rate and blood pressure, etc.
Additionally, many of these stimulants are highly addictive. Those with ADHD are seeking them as a treatment for a medical condition and approach them as controlled substances with theraputic benefit. Doctors and their patients often work for many months to develop the right combination to treat the patient's specific case. Opening these up to the general population when they are not under the care of a doctor seems to open the door to widespread abuse.
Ritalin
Amphetamine ADD medication can worsen the symptoms (like aggression) of PTSD and possibly other undiagnosed psychological conditions. Please don't take this as a go-ahead to use these meds without consulting a doctor. Ritalin use/abuse can be a serious problem for children and adults and we need to treat it that way.
