I'm old enough for retirement but i was forced into it for medical reasons. i've been declared disabled by social security but cannot claim it at my age. can't claim on my dead husband income for 3 more years--but that depends on which ss office you contact.
You are so right..that fixed income only goes so far on any given day.
Prescription drugs
I am also having trouble paying for my prescription medications. In the last three months I have spent seven hundred dollars on prescriptions. I have health insurance but right now I am in what they call a donut hole. I have to put 4350.00 out of pocket before I will get a break. I am seventy five years old I cannot work due to ill health and I am on a fixed income. I hope too, that Mr. Obama can help us all.
God Bless America
Health Care
Please help. My husband's employer has sent us paper work on two health plans they are going to institute Jan. 09. The health plan we had with this company for ten years was wonderful. Amerihealth with Horizon prescripton plan. They sent us two packets for new health plans. One is for BlueCross Blue Sheild, with Horizon prescripton plan. The other is Cigna with Cigna prescription plan. We both really need one with good prescription coverage. As we both have conditions which require several prescriptions. We need help deciphering which plan would be best for us I'm in my mid sixty's and he his 71 years old. He retired 6 years ago at which time he took a parttime job with good health plan. We are both on Medicare of NJ. We are at such lose on what to do. We need help to decide which is better for us. Could some one Please, Please Help Us?? We could us any help we can get. Thank you in advance. Joan
HEALTH CARE AND "THE JUNGLE'
It is a sad state of affairs when HEALTH has been turned over to BIG BUSINESS!!!! Frankly, our present HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
makes me frustrated and disgusted and could turn the most docile
animal of the jungle into a fierce lion!!!!
The medical profession is not trained to prevent health problems and I have spent my entire life solving health issues. The money came from my pocket book and at the age of 57, I am not on any medication and have not been to the doctor for sometime!!! I had to have surgery on shoulder, which became a fight as to who was going to pay and during the fight the shoulder got worse!!! The tendon shrunk, making it difficult for recovery and after 13 months of rehab, I was finally able to use it. I went back to carrying mail and was lead to believe I did not have any problems with that shoulder. I did not know about the condition of that tendon until the medical profession wanted to do a second surgery!!!
I am now on disability and have limited use of my right shoulder. I told the doctors during the fight of who was going to pay, that the surgery needed to be done within 3 months of the tear of that tendon and even told labor and industry (federal) that it could shrink if it is not taken care of within 3 months. I was so mad at myself for not requesting a copy of the surgical report and dumb enough to think rehabilation was truthful. I had asked them if they read the report and the answer was yes, but I never found a copy in my file and after reading it, I do not think it was a wise decision to send me back into carrying mail.
I was working at Kasier Aluminum when I was hit by a forklift and suffered back pain for years. The medical profession does not recognize soft tissue damage as a health issue. I am pain free thanks to massage therapy and a therapist that wanted me pain free!!!!
The above does not cover all of my quests to solve health issues. I strongly recommend that you read ADRENAL FATIGUE BY JAMES WILSON. The drug companies, upon discovery of cortizone,
took ADRENAL CELL EXTRACT OFF THE LIST OF THE PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE!!!! Adrenal cell extract was used for years and you have to read the book to find out why they took it off the market!!!!!
I want a tax credit for staying away from the Medical Profession and spending my own money on Massage Therapy and Brewer's Yeast!!!!
We need Health Care that promotes WELL BEING and knowledge
of how to achieve it!!!!
I want Health Coverage that is going to do just that and not have to fight and be left with a bill that will leave me homeless or stressed!!!
If you read ADRENAL FATIGUE, the harm, "STRESS", does to the body will be shocking and powerful!!!! Knowledge is POWER and we need all the help we can get when it comes to HEALTH IN AMERICA!!!!!
Medicaire Supplemental Plans
Now you can see why there was so much attention being paid to our Health Care System during the recent election. I am in the end of the first year of a Medicaire supplemental and it is a nightmare. The medicines that I take are almost all in "tier 3" -- which means they do not cover the majority of the expense. I am used to paying the co-pay of $5 or $8 and anything I had to have filled.
My uncle spent over $11,000 out of his pocket last year for himself and his wife. They are in their 80's, lived on a fixed income. He has worked all his life and continues to volunteer in our community and yet he can barely makes ends meet with the high cost of his medicines.
I live near the Canadian border and have even explored the possiblity of having my prescriptions filled there. But, some of my meds are not available in Canada.
The powerful pharmeucetical companies continue to keep their prices high and the totally inefffective prescription plans for seniors is ridiculous. I used to wonder why my mom was so tight fisted with her money and watched every cent. She was probably broke paying for the ONE prescription drug she took.
It is my hope and prayer that Mr. Obama will finally do something to make health care and prescription plans that are affordable and make sense.
Health care reform LONG past due
It is apparent to me that the term "health care" in this day and age has become somewhat of a misnomer. Health insurance providers seem to be in the health care business to make huge profits, nothing more, nothing less. Public health care and treatment is a major inconvenience to the industry, but an inconvenience they must absorb in order to continue reaping massive profit and building giant empires. We have become the epitome of the exact opposite problem of socialized medicine in countries such as Canada and France. People in those countries may have to go on a waiting list for some types of treatment, but waiting is probably not much worse than having to go through the approval and/or denial process by corporate thieves to get our treatment if we should happen to suffer the inconvenience of contracting major illnesses. I hate to sound quite so cynical, but we do need major overhaul.....
HMO
Being an RN I would never pick the HMO plan. Been there done that. Vicky
need medicare supplement
I am on cobra at 800.00 a month up from last enrollment of 700 a month. I qualify for medicare under SS disability in April. I am 47 years old. I take about 7-8 medications a day. I go to out of network U of Michigan for outpatient therapy every six months for treatments to help manage this disease.
I am going to need supplement in April as Cobra will be gone when Medicare starts. I have pre- existing condition of chronic illness of 23 years. I can not work any extra SS work as my former employer LTD won't allow you to work any extra with SS even the bare minimium.
So far I have one appt. to meet with an insurance agent in a couple of weeks. I am already afraid my meds will hit the donut hole. How do you afford your meds on SS disability. I worked 22 years full time as an RN perfect record then the last two years of my job my dx. progressed. SO, now I am paying 9,0000 a year for cobra.
I need a good supplement and good prescritption coverage. I read about people going back to work after being on SS I see why. They can't afford the healthcare benefits.
