Sad
The Downlow lifestyle is sad and sick. Black guys doing the nasty at their weekly "poker parties" and then going home with a little present for the wifey. Anyone that does not understand how HIV is transmitted is probably dumb enough to warrant being culled.
AIDS and the Black Community
If I belonged to a group, much like the black community, that was continuously portrayed in the media as being incapable of caring for themselves or taking personal responsibility for their own actions, I would be ashamed to be part of that group.
It is not the "white mans" fault that many people have AIDS, or are living in poverty, or are jobless or that people are often ignorant. I feel that personal responsibility is lacking in many people. Not just the blacks but many people have no sense of personal responsibility. However, in a sense it is to be partially blamed on "politicians", some aspects of our government and men like Jesse Jackson. How so?
If you take an animal into captivity, a protected and nurtured state of living and provide it with food and shelter each and every day. Soon that animal will "forget" how to fend for itself. It will no longer be able to return to its self sufficient ways before it was "taken care of".
Through the years evolution has taken care of the feeble and weak by removing it from the gene pool. This is a little harsh but my point is, as a nation the "government" is enabling the black community to stay needy. By handing out food, money, shelter and temporary fixes to every problem that arises and not teaching personal responsibility by laying blame everywhere but where it belongs, we are in essence turning an entire generation of people (and this includes many whites as well) into people who can no longer fend for themselves and NEED the government. Why on Earth would the government/politicians do this? Votes. It comes down to power. If I keep you weak, needy and helpless, you will turn to me for your answers. Job security for the higher ups.
It is very common in many poor or minority communities for the blame to be placed else where. It's been fed into the minds of the last two generations that without "government" help they couldn't make it on their own. You keep that up long enough and just like the lion in captivity, you will have a being incapable of caring for themselves. The family environment will mirror this and there you go with yet another generation of people incapable of thinking for oneself, dependent on handouts and with a complete lack of a sense of personal responsibility.
So in a way, yes it's the Governments fault. But not for the reasons one might think. Perhaps its not that the Government is not doing enough, it's because we have already done too much. Stepped in and provided SO MUCH care that people are forgetting how to care for themselves. I am not saying we should yank the rug out from anyone or any group, but until we learn that when one of our own are down and out, we take them in until the wing has healed and then release them before they become too dependent on the care giver to make it on their own....we are going to repeat this same cycle over and over through the generations.
Say It Aint So!
Blacks are actually claiming to be neglected in America? Wow, that's a new claim. The only neglect blacks face during the AIDS epidemic is when they neglect to practice safe sex. I had no idea that a Black AIDS Institute existed before this article. I looked everywhere and I could not find a White AIDS Institute. Why do blacks keep saying they want to be treated like everyone else, but they do everything they can to be different, and to remind us of the fact that they're black?
The race card is tattered and worn out. It should be retired along with the Black AIDS Institute and every other Black "Insert Cause Here" Institute. Mr. Disapointed in America mentioned slavery in his/her post. I hereby volunteer to buy every confused black person in America a calendar and a history book. To hear some blacks talk, slavery just ended yesterday and whites should give them money for their trouble.
It is way past time for the black community as a whole to grow up and look to the present and future instead of perpetually living in the distant past. Blacks should also do humanity a favor by educating themselves about AIDS instead of engaging in risky behavior and then blaming others for their high rates of infection.
What a Way to capitilize on DUH
To insinuate that anyone of age (old enough to even HAVE sex) does not know any of the risks involved due to race, economic status, geography (in THIS country), sex, education or otherwise is a gross falsehood. People have been having sexual intercourse in America, without instruction, for a LONG TIME now and we all know (that is, every single last one of us having sex) that sex can lead to unwanted pregnancy and disease (all kinds, not just HIV/Aids).
To say any different is like stating that a smoker does not know it is bad for them or that a drug addict doesn’t understand what he/she is doing to themselves.
It is ridiculous, misleading, irresponsible, and highly ineffective to continue to blame our government for under educating any one group of people. Instead, it would seem that there should be some studies provided in regards to the mind set of the poor and under-educated in this country. Start THERE and work your way up.
Blaming Hip Hop!?!?!??!
Just my two cent, who whenever there is a problem we blame Hip-hop. I believe music period, no matter what genre, is a reflection of life. So if you want to change the message this certain type of music "encourages" change society. Not all hip hop is "negative" if you broadened your horizons you would know that! Lack of education, lack of self- esteem and self-worth, is what i think is a major cause of HIV/AIDS. I agree that people have to take responsibilty for themselves, but that does not mean we should no be active i educating. Everyone should be involved, because everyone in this country knows a black person, has slept with, have children, married, or know someone who fits in this category. Its not just AA's the latino community has a very high rate as well. We all need to work together to solve thiese issues not past judgements about them. Tell me, have any of you every has contact with someone who was dying of AIDS. I have, and it is no pretty situation! It is horrible to watch someone die from AIDS and is something i will never forget. Parents, friends, teachers, etc, please education your children friends, students, and peers. This is really no joke. The statistics do not give these disease justice!
