Health Buzz: Mumps Vaccine and Other Health News

Mumps

Nothing scientific in my comments...but I find an interesting correlation between the recent rise in mumps outbreak and reports on the risk of autism from mercury exposure in vaccinations. Perhaps these reports have caused cautious parents to stop vaccinating their children. If true, this would be a stark reminder of what a heavy responsibility our media has to the public. Through this lens, is a stronger vaccine really the answer?

Autotism

Even though autism has a strong genetic basis, and Hannah has a coexisting rare mitochondrial disorder, Healy argues in On Health that the medical community should not be too quick to dismiss the girl as an anomaly.

How do you come up with genetic connection for a condition relatively unknown before to 1 in 95 today. Specifically, from 1 in 1000 in the 90s to 1 in 95 today (source Dr. Phil Show)??????????
